Steven Batchelor

Steven Batchelor

Partner and COO

Steven is a Partner at Hg. He is the Partnership’s COO and a member of Hg’s Operating and Realisation Committees, with oversight of Client Services and other non-investment related functions.

Steven joined Hg in 2003, having previously worked at Morgan Stanley, where he was involved in a number of M&A and capital market related transactions.

His current responsibilities at Hg include managing the day to day activities of the partnership, firm strategy, fundraising, co-investments and ongoing investor coverage. He also sits on the firm’s Valuation Committee.

Steven holds a degree in History from the University of Bristol.

Matthew is a Managing Partner, Chair of the Hg Investment Committee and is a member of the Operating Committee of the firm.

Matthew focuses on Technology investments and is a board member of several Hg investments including Achilles and Mitratech. He was formerly on the boards of Allocate Software, Intelliflo, Valueworks and Sequel Business Solutions.

Matthew joined Hg in 2010, having previously been a Partner at Apax Partners.

Matthew has a B.Eng from Imperial College, London and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Luke’s responsibilities include managing the day to day activities of the Client Services team. At Hg he focuses on investor coverage across Europe, Asia and the US, fundraising, co-investment syndication and other client service management, and firm-wide strategic initiatives.

Luke joined Hg in 2010, with seven years of experience in M&A and various types of capital-raising at Lazard in London, across their Private Fund Advisory Group, their Global Private Placements and ECM Advisory team, and their UK M&A team.

Luke is from the UK and holds an MA in Modern History from the Oxford University.

Nic is the Senior Partner of Hg. He has ultimate responsibility for Hg’s strategy, management and governance. He focuses on larger software investments that provide daily-use mission critical applications for accountants, lawyers, tax/compliance professionals and designers/engineers/scientists.

Nic is currently a director on the boards of Foundry, IRIS, Sovos Compliance, Visma and CogitalGroup. He has led or co-led more than 30 investments over the last 27 years, including Addison (accounting), CSG (legal/ERP), e-conomic (SaaS ERP), Geneva Technology (telecom OSS), IRIS (Accounting/ERP), NextGenTel (telecoms), RAET (payroll), Rolfe & Nolan (banking), Visma (ERP), Xyratex (storage).

Nic started his investing career in 1990, focused exclusively on Technology since 1994 and joined Hg in 2001 as founder of the firm’s Technology Team. From 1990-2001 he was a director at Barclays Private Equity (now Equistone), Geocapital and 3i plc. He holds a first class degree in Electronic Engineering and was a IEEE and National Engineering Council scholar. He is a World Fellow of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Ben is a member of the Client Services and Saturn teams.

He has 15 years of corporate finance experience from prior roles at Deloitte, UBS and most recently Goldman Sachs, where he was Co-Head of the UK Mid-Cap Investment Banking team. Ben joined Hg in 2023 and his current focus is on managing exits within the Hg portfolio as well as managing the HgCapital Trust.

Ben is from the UK and holds a degree in History from the University of Oxford.

Justin is a Managing Partner, member of the Hg Investment Committee, the Realisation Committee and a member of the Hg Board. Justin is also responsible for Hg’s Munich office.

Justin joined Hg in 2002. He is currently a Director of Benevity, P&I, CaseWare, Gen-II, Mein Auto, GGW, Transporeon and is a member of the Waystone board. He has led or co-led more than 25 investments since joining Hg: among them Serrala, F24, MediFox, RAET and STP.

Prior to Hg, Justin was employed by Goldman Sachs and Deloitte. He holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Cologne.

Prior to joining Hg in 2024, Barty worked as an analyst for J T Financial Management.

Barty holds a degree in Philosophy from the University of Warwick.

George Crowe

George is a Consultant to HgCapital Trust plc. Previously, George spent nine years at Partners Group in its Client Solutions, Private Wealth team in London, covering UK wealth managers and led investor relations for its LSE-listed private equity investment company. Before this he worked at Numis Securities and PwC in London.

George is a Chartered Accountant and holds a degree in Management & Politics from the University of Leeds.

Laura is the Senior Investor Relations Manager.

Laura joined Hg in 2010. Prior to this Laura had spent more than 20 years’ within financial services on both the buy and sell-side, initially at Smith New Court and Merrill Lynch and more recently at NewSmith Asset Management providing investor coverage to their hedge fund clients.

Matt joined Hg in 2012 and leads the fund finance team, who are responsible for all fund accounting, reporting and administration. Matt also has responsibility for the financial reporting of HgCapital Trust Plc.

Prior to Hg, Matt worked at Royal Bank of Scotland Plc, Man Group Plc and Grant Thornton.

Matt holds a degree in Economics and Management from the University of Newcastle and is a qualified chartered accountant.

Rebecca joined Hg in 2019 and is the Fund Controller for the Mercury Fund and HgCapital Trust, covering both fund and portfolio reporting responsibilities.

Prior to Hg, Rebecca worked at Blick Rothenberg for three years. Rebecca holds a degree in International Economics from the University of Essex and is a qualified chartered accountant.

Ian Jack

Head of Compliance & Risk

Ian is Head of Compliance and Risk and has oversight of all regulatory and compliance matters.

Ian has over 15 years regulatory and compliance experience. Prior to joining Hg, he spent three years at HarbourVest Partners, where he was Head of Compliance, EMEA. Ian’s prior experience also includes senior compliance roles on both the buy-side and the sell-side, and five years in a variety of roles at the Financial Services Authority (FSA).

Ian holds a BSc in Astrophysics from the University of Wales, Cardiff.
